I wrote this server in Perl 4. It binds a socket, accepts a connection, reads the request line, extracts the path, and logs the request. At roughly sixty lines, it was a small exercise in implementing HTTP directly.
Existing servers were already available: Apache’s first public release was in April 1995. This program records an individual implementation, a record of one individual implementation.
Reading the demonstration
The archive description records a socket listener, request parser, file response, and request log. No running recording accompanies this entry.
